Pastors encouraged and refreshed

Posted on April 19, 2011 by Wally Metts.

All four pastors and intern Ben Newman attended a pastors’ conference in Chicago earlier this month, along with over 5000 other pastors and church leaders.

Pastor John Lillie says the bi-annual conference “provides an opportunity to step outside of our own schedules and spend focused time on the study of the word. It helps us to hear again the importance of the gospel and have the opportunity to discuss it, debate it, and meditate on it.”

“It encourages us and affirms the work we do and I come back encouraged and refreshed, energized to keep going,” he says.

Ben Newman says the highlight of the conference for him was a workshop by C. J. Mahaney on the book of Jude. “He wrote a book on humility and it easy to see that he lives what he wrote,” Ben says. “His passion for the Lord, his humility in speaking and his focus fully and only on Jesus really encouraged me."

The conference, sponsored by the Gospel Coalition, focused on the theme of preaching Christ from the Old Testament. Keynote speakers included D.A. Carson, Tim Keller, Alistair Begg and James McDonald.
